Our mission at KatieB Kids is to create a daytime family, rooted in happiness, where childhood is just as it should be.
Our Philosophy
At KatieB Kids we believe childhood should be filled with curiosity, joy and connection.
Children thrive when they feel safe, valued and deeply known by the adults around them. Through strong relationships, thoughtful environments and exceptional early years expertise, we create the conditions where children feel confident to explore, discover and grow.
Our role is not simply to care for children during the day, but to nurture the emotional security, curiosity and confidence that form the foundation for life.
Confidence Grows from Connection
Our work is guided by Let’s Nurture Futures™, a values-led, research-informed framework developed here at KatieB Kids.
Rooted in relationships, play, wellbeing and learning, the framework brings together the experiences that support children to grow into confident, curious and emotionally secure individuals.
It shapes everything we do, from our environments and daily experiences to how we support families and develop our educators.
Just as childhood should be
KatieB Kids was founded in 2014 by Katie Ballard, a mother of three with a simple but powerful belief: that every child deserves to experience childhood with love, curiosity and joy.
Inspired by her own children and the experiences she wanted for them, Katie set out to create a nursery where children could flourish in an environment that feels both nurturing and inspiring, a place that balances the warmth of home with the insight of exceptional early years education.
Today, KatieB Kids is shaped by that same vision. Together with a passionate and highly skilled team of educators, Katie has created more than a nursery. She has created a daytime family, a community where children feel safe, valued and free to explore the world around them.
At the heart of Katie’s work is a belief that the early years matter deeply. Guided by this understanding, she developed the Let’s Nurture Futures™ framework, a values-led approach that brings together relationships, wellbeing and meaningful learning to support children during the most important years of development.
Our location: The Chapel of St Luke
KatieB Kids is housed within the Chapel of St Luke, a nationally listed Grade II building of architectural and social significance.
Designed at the turn of the 20th century by Andrew Murray FRIBA, the City of London’s Surveyor, the chapel was built to serve the City of London Asylum — a space created with the radical belief that environment, light and beauty matter to wellbeing and dignity.
The building’s original stained-glass windows by Heaton, Butler & Bayne, one of Britain’s most respected historic glassmakers, were designed to bring light, colour and calm into the space. Alongside the flint and Portland stone craftsmanship, vaulted timber roof and carefully proportioned interior, the chapel reflects a time when care environments were thoughtfully designed to support emotional and human needs — not just function.
Today, as owners of this extraordinary building, we take seriously the responsibility to care for it with intention and respect, protecting its character while allowing it to remain a warm, welcoming place for children to play, learn and belong.
This chapel has always existed to support people at their most vulnerable. Now, it does so for our youngest children and we honour that responsibility every day.
